360 - Squirrel Wars

One Seriously Pissed Off Squirrel

1. One Seriously Pissed Off Squirrel
If you live in Germany, and you are over 70 years old, watch out for rampaging squirrels. The only known defense against one of these vicious rodents is the common crutch.

Stars Align

2. Stars Align
I've been waiting for a good day to tell you about Cute With Chris, a regular, video web series. It's kind of hard to explain what the show is about, but if you like it, there are currently over 125 episodes available for your enjoyment. A recent episode heavily features a squirrel wearing a speedo, so that is why today works out so well

Jedi

3. Jedi
I have a bad feeling about this.

Light Saber Repair

4. Light Saber Repair
Good concept. Short and sweet. Easy to read in one sitting. That's the way I like it.

PKD

5. PKD
I was aiming for some kind of tenuous squirrel/light saber theme for today but it's fallen apart already so I'll just tell you to come by the house tonight and watch these two movies since I forgot to post about it earlier when it might have actually been helpful.

342 - Memories

How to Get Photographic Memory in 40 days

1. How to Get Photographic Memory in 40 Days
Here's a few ways that you can supposedly improve your memory. All of them should be taken with a grain of salt, but maybe its worth it to try a few of them out. For instance, I don't really see how looking at a moving watch hand could do anything, but it couldn't hurt to spend 2 minutes a day testing this theory.

How to Help Your Memory by Using Your Eyes

2. How to Help Your Memory by Using Your Eyes
Your eyes are attached directly to your brain, so there could be something to this memory improvement technique, but I'm still pretty skeptical.

5 Ways to Improve Your Memory

3. Five Ways to Improve Your Memory
This guy gives five techniques that all seem pretty much generally accepted methods for living healthier. I guess if your body is healthy, your mind might be too. In any event he does provide one specific piece of advice that seems pretty practical; If you have a hard time remembering things, write them down.

Magnets May Make the Brain Grow Stronger

4. Magnets May Make the Brain Grow Stronger
Anything associate with magnet therapy sets off my quackery warning bells. Yet research with mice suggests that magnetic stimulation might increase growth of memory centers of the brain. Of course I wouldn't run out and get a Miracle Magnet Helmet® just yet.

Memry

5. Memry
After you've complete all these methods of memory improvement, you can test your new brain skills on the classic game of Concentration using images culled from Flickr. I've conveniently populated this game with images of geek girls dressed in Slave Leia costumes.

339 - Days Today

Useful

1. Useful
Today is Towel Day. Fans of Douglas Adams, author of The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy are encouraged to carry a towel today in remembrance of his "the humor and insight." (Quotes used because this phrase is taken from the website, not because I'm being sarcastic, like later when I considered putting quotes around the word "actor" when used to describe Mike Myers.)

The Force

2. The Force
Today also marks the 30th anniversary of Star Wars. Fans of the classic film franchise have suggested that May 25th become the Universal Day of the Jedi in remembrance of a time that existed after Jawas and the Millennium Falcon but prior to Jar Jar Binks and Midichlorians. And don't try to tell me that Revenge of the Sith was good. You know in your heart of heart that it sucks. Just admit it already.

Born

3. Born
May 25th also marks the birth date of musician Miles Davis, who would have been 81 years old. A lot of people will tell you to listen to Kind of Blue, but I'm recommending this Milt Jackson collaboration.

Celebs

4. Celebs
A bunch of other "famous" people were born today as well, including, actors, Mike Myers, Cillian Murphy and Ian McKellen; singer, Lauryn Hill; writers Raymond Carver, W.P. Kinsella, Ralph Waldo Emmerson, Robert Ludlum and Poppy Z. Brite; director, actor, puppeteer and voice of Yoda, Frank Oz:; and comics creators, Barry Windsor-Smith and Stan Sakai. I'm sure a lot of other great and nice people were born to day too, But I've probably never heard of most of them.

Missing

5. Missing
Today is also National Missing Children's Day so if you've found any kids recently, this is your best opportunity to turn them in.

254 - Space-ish

Kiss Your Ass Goodbye

1. Kiss Your Ass Goodbye
The recent rash of space objects hurtling at the earth inspired Keith Hogan, a teacher in England, to teach his 230 students about the value of life by telling them an asteroid was about to hit us and kill everyone. His plan went haywire when the kids took him at his word and started seriously freaking out.

Don't Pucker Up Just Yet

2. Don't Pucker Up Just Yet
Phil Plait of Bad Astronomy seems to think we shouldn't be so worried about that kind of asteroid, certainly not the one headed our way in 2029 at least.

The Hutt

3. The Hutt
Like most people of my age, I have an interest in the Star Wars movies. These people, however, have taken that interest to the extreme. There is really way too much information on the Wookieepedia. Seriously, how much does the world need to know about The Hutt?

Lunar Real Estate

4. Lunar Real Estate
NASA recently began testing of a prototype inflatable building which will eventually become the basic habitat for our first base on the moon, a mission planned to begin sometime around 2020.

Eclipse

5. Eclipse
Finally today, a heads-up about the total lunar eclipse that will be happening this Saturday. If you are in the part of the world lucky enough to see it completely, get out there and take a look. Show it to some kids.

'Creationism: The Game

4. Creationism: The Game
You can guess by the name of the store, Living Waters, that this "Intelligent Design vs. Darwinism" board game is probably skewed toward the creationist player. What would the faithful do if the scientific player actually won the game?

The Slave Leia Appreciation Society

5. The Slave Leia Appreciation Society
An incredible flickr pool with nothing but pictures of nerd-girls wearing Princess Leia metal bikini outfits.

Blentec makes a blender that will puree just about anything, ice, Coke cans, glass marbles, etc. Also would probably make a great lamp.
