380 - Zombie

1. Zombie Movies
Zombies have become pretty popular in Hollywood in the last few years. Here's a rundown of some of the higher profile upcoming zombie movies. These are all mostly major studio releases, but for the independent film maker, it seems that the zombie film is a no-lose proposition. You'll almost definitely be able to sell your movie as a direct to DVD title, and zombie fans will watch pretty much anything, so it doesn't matter it your movie sucks.

2. Vegetarian Zombies
This is really kind of stupid. I'm not totally sure how a "pun" is defined, but I think this is pretty close, and I'm sure that puns aren't really funny. Still, I did chuckle a little bit under my breath.

3. An Everlasting Covenant
I guess this could be construed as sac religious. Or it might be a critique of organized Christianity. Or it might be a satire of a classic work of art. Or the guy might have jut thought it was a funny idea.

4. Heat Signature.
This video is kind of creepy, but you can tell it isn't real because everyone knows that zombies do not register as warm bodies on infrared cameras.

5. Army-men of the Dead
These might seem kind of cool, but I have to state clearly that I think $15.00 plus shipping is way too expensive for some stupid glow-in-the-dark zombie toys.

377 - with Links

1. All Beef?
After all my accusatiions, Kobayashi decided to show up at Nathan's hot dog eating contest after all. Unfortunately, he faced exactly what I believe he wanted to avoid; Joey Chestnut, who blasted past the record and ate 66 hot dogs. I'm not sure why I can't get behind this guy. I should be supporting the American I guess, but Kobayashi is just so freaking cute that I can't root against him.

2. Films-Within-Films
I've been watching a lot of HBO's Entourage lately, so the first fictional movies I thought of were Head On, Queens Boulevard, Aquaman and MedellĂn.

3. ESP Envy
With all the poker, dominos, strongman and lumberjack games they show on ESPN these days, I watch it quite a lot more than I ever did before. Now they're adding Rock, Paper, Scissors coverage to make me watch just a little bit more.

4. Barking Mad Bank Robber
What is the best disguise to wear when robbing a bank? I'm not sure, but it turns out that making yourself a tree costume out of leaves and twigs doesn't work that well.

5. Snooze
For years I've been wondering why alarm clock manufacturers set the snooze timer for nine minutes. I never worried about it enough to do the research. Luckily, Mental Floss Magazine did it for me.

Who Needs Law School?

1. Who Needs Law School?
Remember about a month ago when I told you about a guy that had his camcorder stolen so he posted the suspected thief's phone number in a youtube video? Remember I suggested that what he did was probably illegal? Yeah. Well, I was right.

Speaking of Youtube

2. Speaking of Youtube
Somebody leaked some footage from the new Micheal Bay Transformers movie onto the internet. There's no audio, but seeing the transformations from robots to cars is pretty freaking impressive.

Nodes

3. Nodes
Another way to waste time at work when you are supposed to be making money for the capitalist pigs.

Speaking of Capatalist Pigs

4. Speaking of Capatalist Pigs
These capitalists are about to be really, really pissed.

Google Street Fight

5. Google Street Fight
Have you been following the Google Streetview privacy rights issue? In case you don't know, Streetview is a new feature of Google Maps which allows you to zoom in through Google's satellite imagery, to see actual street level photographs of certain metropolitan areas, including pedestrians doing things they might not want posted on the internet. Not only street fights, but also crimes in progress, streetside hanky panky, smoking up, getting a ticket, and other things.

360 - Squirrel Wars

One Seriously Pissed Off Squirrel

1. One Seriously Pissed Off Squirrel
If you live in Germany, and you are over 70 years old, watch out for rampaging squirrels. The only known defense against one of these vicious rodents is the common crutch.

Stars Align

2. Stars Align
I've been waiting for a good day to tell you about Cute With Chris, a regular, video web series. It's kind of hard to explain what the show is about, but if you like it, there are currently over 125 episodes available for your enjoyment. A recent episode heavily features a squirrel wearing a speedo, so that is why today works out so well

Jedi

3. Jedi
I have a bad feeling about this.

Light Saber Repair

4. Light Saber Repair
Good concept. Short and sweet. Easy to read in one sitting. That's the way I like it.

PKD

5. PKD
I was aiming for some kind of tenuous squirrel/light saber theme for today but it's fallen apart already so I'll just tell you to come by the house tonight and watch these two movies since I forgot to post about it earlier when it might have actually been helpful.

355 - Art Request

Wooden Mirror

1. Wooden Mirror
It's hard to say exactly what is happening here, but it has something to do with a tiny camera, a computer, a bunch of tilting wooden tiles, and a very bright light.

The Wrong Trousers

2. The Wrong Trousers
Mandolin, harp, stand up bass, nerds, Buggles, busking. Check 'em out.

Gas Mask

3. Gas Mask
My failing eyesight, combined with small white text on a light grey background, forbids me from telling you what any of Chris Dimino's artwork is about but I know he made a cool shower head out of a gas mask.

Action Poetry

4. Action Poetry
Former Poet Laureate, Billy Collins, reads his poetry which is then set in motion by a collection of animators and film makers. My favorite: Forgetfulness.

Inkjet

5. Inkjet
Proof of concept. Making projectable 8mm and 16mm films using a home computer and an inkjet printer. You must be able to get a square paper punch for easily making those socket holes.

Drive-In

1. Drive-In
Here it is again; your weekly invitation (which you have been ignoring, by the way) to view a pair of movies under the stars projected onto a 14 foot wide screen hung across a garage door. The weather is getting really nice now, and really, what better things do you have to do on a Friday night?

I Forgive You

2. I Forgive You
If you wanted to know why Spider-Man Three sucks, these kids pretty much nail it.

So, Uh, What's the 411? Any Updates on the, Uh, the P Situation?

3. So, Uh, What's the 411? Any Updates on the, Uh, the P Situation?
Did you hear about how Jenna Fischer, known mostly for her role on NBC's hit comedy, The Office, (but most beloved by me for her small role in Slither) fell down a steep staircase and broke her freaking back in three places?

Non-Value Indicator

4. Non-Value Indicator
Are you considering purchasing some of the so-called Forever Stamps issued by the USPS after the recent postage increase? Think again. Slate explains how the rising cost of stamps has never, and never will, catch up to the rate of inflation.

Adventure Time

5. Adventure Time
Do you like cartoons? Pen Ward made one you're sure to enjoy.

338 - Zombie

Zombie Land

1. Zombie Land
In attempt to appeal to audiences ranging from zombie fans, to skateboarders, to little kids, to metal heads, Urban Squall has produced an online video game which doesn't really appeal to anyone.

Hell's Ground

2. Hell's Ground
"An ultra-gory horror yarn of zombies, teens and burqa-wearing, flail-wielding backwoods psychopaths. Burqas?" That's right. It's Pakistan's first horror film.

Zombies on a Plane

3. Zombies on a Plane
And then there's this upcoming movie, Flight of the Living Dead, which combines aspects of Dawn of the Dead and Snakes on a Plane. I actually think it looks pretty good. Don't confuse it with Scott Ewen's comic book of the same name.

Canadians

4. Canadians
But the upcoming zombie movie which has the best chance of making it to your local cineplex is Fido, a comedic social satire wrapped in the trappings of a horror movie.

Endless Zombie Rampage

5. Endless Zombie Rampage
In contrast to Zombie Land, the creators of this game are trying to appeal to only one audience; people who like to shoot things and look at lots of pixelated blood spurts.

336 - Movie

Drive-way Drive-in

1. Drive-way Drive-in
Your weekly invitation to a night of movies under the stars, on an oil stained slab of slightly tilted concrete.

MPAA

2. MPAA
1968 brought about the birth of the "voluntary" Hollywood rating system. A few things have changed over the years, NC-17 appeared when the adult film industry finally got a monopoly on the letter X, and you might be surprised to see that PG was original called GP. Of course PG-13 turned up in 1984 to keep 12 year olds from seeing Red Dawn.

Melton Pocket Movie Viewer

3. Melton Pocket Movie Viewer
The fifty-five year old portable media center.

Barbarella

4. Barbarella
Robert Rodriguez has signed on to direct the new Barbarella movie. So Kate Beckinsale is probably out. Carla Gugino or Salma Hayek are good bets right now.

Countdown

5. Countdown
Running down from one hundred to one with movie clips. How many can you recognize?

Face-Off

1. Jerry Falwell: Dead
So no more quotes like these, "Christians, like slaves and soldiers, ask no questions" "If you're not a born-again Christian, you're a failure as a human being" "Textbooks are Soviet propaganda" and "Grown men should not be having sex with prostitutes unless they are married to them."

Drive-In

2. Drive-In
Last weeks drive in was a bit of a bust due to the cold weather and the cold virus. Stop by this coming Friday for Bringing Up Baby and The Philadelphia Story.

Ahoy

3. Ahoy
Bruce Campbell proving his awesome-ness once again in this second installment of his Old Spice commercial series.

Op-Ed

4. Op-Ed
We've all seen a lot of optical illusions on the internet. This site collects a huge number of them, makes them interactive, and gives detailed explanations of how and why they work.

Tool-Maker

5. Tool-Maker
What's the difference, really, between a crow, a raven, a jackdaw, a starling, and any of those other black feathered birds that regular people hate for no apparent reason?

322 - Conspiracy

It's Die Hard in a Lincoln Continental

1. It's Die Hard in a Lincoln Continental
Hot on the heels of his uncomfortably drunken performance at a NBA Playoff game, Bruce Willis is trying to enlighten Vanity Fair readers about what really went down in Dealey Plaza in 1963 and how JFK's true killers are "still in power, in some form."

Potter Conspiracy

2. Potter Conspiracy
Is it possible that JK Rowling, the supposed author of the incredibly popular Harry Potter series is nothing more than a committee of hired writers churning out chapters under an umbrella pseudonym?

Conspiracy House Rock

3. Conspiracy House Rock
Media-opoly, carcinogenic nuclear pollution, corporate welfare, pocket politicians, weapons programs, technical difficulties.

Where There's Smoke

4. Where There's Smoke
It is clear that the battery industry is influencing the smoke detector manufacturers in an effort to force expensive, borderline obsolete, non-rechargeable, 9-volt batteries on the consumer.

Loose Screw

5. Loose Screw
Customer complaints (and probably the liberal media) have forced Virgin Airlines to reconsider its plans to include the September 11th conspiracy documentary, Loose Change, as a part of its in-flight entertainment program.
