179 - Target

Targeting Target

1. Targeting Target
I saw this sign today in the front of the newspaper machine outside the door of the local post office. (I stole it on the way out.)

Target Hates America

2. Target Hates America
The claim of the signmaker (and countless email forwarders) is that French owned company, Target, hates American veterans and only gives charitable donations to gay and lesbian organizations. Therefore, you should boycott their stores.

One Pissed Veteran

3. One Pissed Veteran
Of course none of this is true. The whole rumor started when one veteran went to an individual Target store manager and asked for a donation to sponsor a traveling Vietnam memorial. Unfortunately, the manager was not in the position to give this money. The veteran started sending out emails to his friend urging them to stop shopping at Target.

The Problem with Faith

4. The Problem with Faith
Seriously, how could someone go to all the trouble and expense of creating an advertisement and having it publicly displayed, but be too lazy to do a simple google search? The VFW has issued a statement trying to dispel these rumors. Even the man that started the rumor has apologized for his mistake. Please stop forwarding emails about this.

CVS, Costco, Best Buy, Curcuit City, Kohl's, Toys R Us, Home Depot, etc

5. CVS, Costco, Best Buy, Curcuit City, Kohl's, Toys R Us, Home Depot, etc
Target is not French owned. Target does give money to veterans charities. It is true, however, that Target does not allow Salvation Army bell ringers in front of their stores. This is a totally different issue all together. They really have no legal or moral obligation to let their customers be annoyed in this way, but if you feel you need to boycott Target for this decision, please go right ahead.

i'd like to hear how they will respond to all of the evidence against this dumbass campaign.
thank you in advance for your hard work.

I thought about callin gthe number, but I doubt I'll muster up the inititive to actually go through with it. Though if I do, I definitely don't have the means to record the conversation.
